THE WARS
Firstly, our current policy in Afghanistan has always been a failure. Back in the days when we armed the Mujaheedins to fight off the old USSR, we did not exert enough quality control over the weaponry and the people we were training and arming to dislodge the Soviet Union. These same people became the Taliban, which armed and harbored Al Qaeda. As soon as we were satisfied that the Soviet Union was no longer a player, we packed up and left the country in the hands of the Taliban.
The Issues
It is now evident that the Federal plan to help people stay in their homes is not working as efficiently as was expected. Most lenders deny loan modifications and proceed through foreclosure only to turn around and sell the homes for a third or less of the mortgage balance. This not only destroys the nucleus of our families, but also accelerates the depreciation of our homes and tears the fabric of our neighborhoods.
